This portfolio is derived from the things in our lives, the small things, the big things, our possessions, the little things we love to love. Rings, Jewellery, cameras, pets, vases – they are all things that exist within our everyday lives at home and around us but that we don’t always take the time to stop and look at in a different light.
The majority of these shots particularly the still life objects were take with a Nikon D90 and a Nikon 60mm Micro lens, this lens is designed to capture the close up finer detail of objects. Still life photography can be more than just a camera and flash. The images included in this portfolio of the wattle brush and vase were captured using a technique called ‘painting with light’ - where the camera is attached to the tripod in pitch black room. A light meter is used to work out the amount of light that will be needed and the result for these shots was 10-11 seconds of light from the torch (torch in this case however, other light source can be used) is painted over the subject to produce the results you see here.
